Staff Announcements for the week of Nov. 18th

Fitness Fridays are resuming!

Starting this Friday, fitness testing will be taking place at Maurice Lapointe School. Cadets are to arrive before their time slot dressed in PT clothing and with a water bottle. More information about the fitness test itself can be found in the files section. Participation in the Cadet Fitness Assessment is required for promotion to all ranks other than LAC or WO1. As spaces are limited at each event, you must sign up in advance here:
 
 
More dates/slots will be opening throughout the year to give all cadets the opportunity to participate.

Biathlon Practice, 19 Nov, CARDELREC Stittsville (running oval) 0900-1100

The 872 Sqn Angry Unicorns biathlon team will be having its next practice.
This practice is open to ALL LEVELS (both returning and new team members)
 
ELIGIBILITY: If you can run 2Km without stopping and have no medical restrictions that stop you from handling a firearm, you can participate. Note that there will be no marksmanship at this practice.
DATE: Saturday 19 Nov 2022
TIME: 0900-1100
LOCATION: CARDELREC Recreation Centre, 1500 Shea Rd., Stittsville (at the Running Oval behind the building, see map)

Cadets should be dressed in layers appropriate for running and other exercise and have their own supply of water.
Cadets should also be prepared to run continuously for up to 2km at a time.
 
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Those cadets participating in the range activity on the same day may sign up for both activities, and will be able to leave the biathlon practice early if necessary

Level 2 Uniform Night

All level 2 cadets are encouraged to participate in an upcoming Uniform Night where you will learn how to have your uniform up to dress standards.

This will be next Tuesday November 22nd at Glen Cairn Community Centre (190 Morrena Rd, Kanata) between 1830h to 2030h.

Cadets should attend wearing their full green uniforms (FTUs), and bring every part of their blue uniform.

We recommend that you come even if you still haven’t received your uniform, so you can be ready for when you get it.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

All cadets age 14 or older who are interested in joining or knowing more about the Duke of Edinburgh Award please send me an email: alta.espinosa-padilla@cadets.gc.ca or talk to me on Wednesday. If you sign up before the end of the year, it will count as if you had done it in September.

Cadets Needed to sell Raffle Tickets

872 Squadron SSC will be selling raffle tickets from Friday November 25 to Sunday November 27th at the Canadian Tire in Kanata. 

We need cadets to volunteer (this activity qualifies for High School Volunteer hours) to help sell tickets.  We will have one shift on Friday night from 5 to 9pm, three shifts on Saturday (9am -12 pm, 12 pm to 3 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm) plus two shifts on Sunday (9am – 12 pm and 12 pm to 3 pm).  

We require one level 5 and two other cadets of any rank for each shift and a SSC volunteer will be present for each shift.  Cadets can sign up at the following link:

Dress will be Blue uniform but if you don’t have one then FTU’s if you have them.  If you have no uniform you may still participate in nice civilian dress.

LEVEL 3 and 4 Senior Leadership Weekend

The Ottawa area is putting on a weekend of leadership activities, both theoretical and hands-on, for level 3s and 4s.
It is a great opportunity to learn new things, participate in some fun activities, and meet peers from other squadrons.

We will be holding Merit Review Boards for WO2s who wish to be considered for WO1. They will be taking place the week of 23 November and are a mandatory component of the process to be promoted.
