All cadets are expected to attend every Wednesday night parade in order to meet the requirements of the Mandatory Training Program. In addition, cadets are expected to attend any other cadet activity that they have signed up for.

If a cadet is unable to attend, they must submit an absence notification before the activity, stating the reason for the absence. The AdmO will determine if an Excused or  Absence will be assigned. To submit an absence notification go to Cadet365.  If  you do not have access to cadet 365 email the AdmO at 872aviation@cadets.gc.ca

The Squadron calendar will show upcoming activities and planned timings. Timings and information posted in “Important Announcements” will be the latest available information and in the event that they don’t agree with the calendar, the “Important Announcements” info should be followed.

Applications for the National/Regional camps and Staff Cadet positions normally begin in October. These camps are for cadets that are in Level 3 and above. Camp positions are based on exams and interviews at the Quebec Provincial Region. Cadets are ranked by the results of the exams and interviews as well as their school academic performance for the previous year, participation in extra cadet activities (drill team, band, etc) and non-cadet school and community activities. A ranked list is produced by the Regional Air Cadet League and positions are filled from that. The 872 Sqn CO makes ranking recommendations based on the Squadron Matrix for all names submitted from 872 Squadron.

Quota camp applications normally begin in January. These camps vary from 2 weeks for Level 1 cadets up to 6+ weeks for older cadets. The Squadron is assigned a set number of positions. Applicants are ranked and chosen by the 872 Sqn CO using the Squadron Matrix. Final selection is made by the Regional Cadet Headquarters.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program aims to help young individuals develop strength of character, leadership and personal discipline through four sectors of activity: community service, sports activities, skills, and expedition. It was conceived by his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh in 1956, and started in Canada in 1963 with aims similar to those of the Air Cadet Program.

Promotions normally happen at the end of each Training Year. Eligibility for promotion is subject to successful completion of all Level Mandatory and Complimentary Training requirements, as well as participation in certain weekend activities (for example, FTX) or parades (for example Battle of Britain Parade or Remembrance Day Parade). If clarification is required, please speak to the Training Officer (TrgO).

The 872 Squadron Handbook provides most of the background information required for participation in the Squadron and is highly recommended reading for new parents and cadets.   https://872-squadron-rcac.ca/872-sqn-cadet-handbook/

The Matrix tracks a cadet’s activities and achievements over the course of their cadet career. Points are assigned to provide a running total and a ranking out of all the cadets. This ranking is used any time a selection must be made (ie. summer camp applications, etc). Complete details can be found at https://872-squadron-rcac.ca/the-matrix/ and any questions can be directed to the Adm(O).

Cadets are expected to attend cadets activities in the meantime, wearing their Squadron T-Shirt, black dress pants and hard soled-shoes.
