Power Familiarization Flying – 23 November 2019

This activity is open to all levels! 872 RCACS is planning to conduct power familiarization flying on: Saturday 23 November 2019. 30 Cadets in the Morning (8:15-12:30) and 30 Cadets in the afternoon (12:45-17:00(5pm)). *Only one sign up per cadet.

This activity involves taking cadets for a flight over the Local area in an aircraft, departing from Carp Airport (off of March Road). Cadets are to be brought to location, no buses will be provided. There is no cost, Cadets must come dressed for a winter flight.  This includes a proper winter jacket, gloves, hat and footwear.  In the unlikely event that the aircraft and its occupants need to wait somewhere without heat, everyone needs to be warm.  The pilots may refuse to send cadets flying who (in their opinion) are not properly dressed. (Cameras/cell phone cameras are highly encouraged).

Cadets will be greeted and weighed upon arrival.  They will plan flights to make sure that the weight and balance of the aircraft is safe. There is not necessarily a specific maximum weight, but we do have constrains with the maximum payload of the aircraft.
Cadets will be escorted to the aircraft by a pilot, and assisted with boarding and securely fastening their seat belts.  The pilot will take off and bring them on a short tour of the local area, approximately 15 minutes.  They will enjoy great views and learn about aviation from the pilot! Most of our scheduled pilots are cadets themselves, who have met the enhanced experience requirements to take cadet passengers. After landing they will be met by a pilot and brought back to the classroom area.

Cadets will have access to a classroom while at Carp airport, where they can relax, study, and chat. Cadets are encourage to bring activity to entertain themselves i.e. board games or cards. There is no restaurant onsite but there are a few coin vending machines.  There is drinking water onsite if the cadets bring water bottles to fill.

Should this activity be cancelled, there will be other dates for power familiarization flying throughout the 2019/2020 training year.

NOTE: Cancellation of this activity may occur depending on weather forecasts up to the scheduled date, and the weather on the actual day. Cancellation information will be announced on the 872 RCACS website by 06:30 am on the 23 November 2019.
