Parents – SSC Meeting

To all parents. The next SSC (Squadron Sponsoring Committee) meeting is being held this Thursday Nov 11th at 7pm. We will be doing an in-person meeting at Buster’s Bar & Grill (in the back room) with an option to participate via Zoom if you don’t want to come in person. If you are interested please RSVP as soon as possible to 872.chairperson@cadetsair.ca and indicate as you will attend in person or by zoom (in which case you will receive an email with the link).

What is the SSC? It is a group of volunteers, separate from the DND Staff, whose main mission is to provide logistic and financial support to the Squadron. Most of us are just parents with a desire to get involved in Cadets and give back to the Community. It’s the SSC who organizes and manages Tag Day, Spaghetti Dinner, the Canteen, Squadron Swag and pretty much anything that brings in funding. The SSC also helps anywhere that we’re needed, such as buying, preparing and serving food for activities such as FTX (Bush Weekend) and Glider Days.

As much as Cadets and Staff are essential to the Squadron, so is the SSC. The Squadron can’t function without the SSC, and will be dissolved if it doesn’t have one. As Cadets age out and leave, so do their parents and therefore our SSC members, which means that we need to partially renew our ranks almost every year. New members are essential to the continuity of the SSC.

This is why we need your help; we need volunteers at all levels, from occasionally bringing food for an event to helping with an online fundraiser to becoming an executive member of the SSC. Most of us started as occasional volunteers and increasingly took on more responsibilities as we gained experience.
