2020 Effective Speaking Competition – 5 Feb 2020

The ability to communicate effectively in our professional and personal lives is an essential life skill. Each year the Air Cadet League of Canada hosts an Effective Speaking Competition which allows cadets from across the country to showcase their Effective Speaking skills in a structured and competitive environment. These competitions are held at the local (squadron), regional, provincial, and national levels. This year’s national competition will be held in Saskatoon SK in June.

The 872 RCACS competition will be held on Wednesday 5 February 2020 during our regular parade night a maximum of 15 cadets will be selected to participate. All interested cadets are invited to register on the sign up here. Deadline for registration is 1 February 2020.

Each participating cadet is required to present a three (3) minute impromptu speech (topics to be provided on the day of the event) and a five (5) minute prepared speech on one of the approved topics listed below.

TOPICS FOR THE NATIONAL EFFECTIVE SPEAKING COMPETITION 2020

•                    How do you live with integrity as a leader?

•                    What does bravery mean to you?

•                    What are the positive or negative effects of AI?

•                    What are the health and social effects of vaping?

•                    Canada’s role in international affairs.

•                    What are the greatest challenges facing the Canadian aviation industry?

•                    How do you remember the sacrifices made on our behalf by our nation’s military?

•                    Describe an historical event of note, and what it meant to Canada.

•                    Describe a true Canadian hero, and the difference he/she made to our nation.

•                    Cadet Choice: must fit into one of these categories: Cadet Life; Science and Technology; Aviation; Canadian History or Citizenship.

Each cadet that registers to participate will be provided with the complete rules for the competition by email.
