Remembrance Day – November 11, 2024

REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONIES—11 NOVEMBER 2024

As part of our Canadian Armed Forces engagement, and our partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638, which generously donates funds and training facilities to our squadron every year, along with the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence, I would like to ask you to commit to attending a Remembrance Day ceremony this Monday. Attendance at either the Carp or Kanata ceremony will count towards your requirement to participate in a formal parade—a requirement to complete your level training. It will also go a long way to showing our comrades in the Legion how much we appreciate their support, and how we honour our veterans. Family members are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

You can use the Shifts app in Teams to select whether you plan to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Kanata, Carp, or at your school.  For instructions on how to sign up, please see the end of this message.

Dress of the day will be C1 for all cadets who have been issued the blue Distinct Environmental Uniform (DEU). Cadets who have not been issued DEU should wear C5 (Field Training Uniform/FTU). If you have not been issued either uniform, a special Supply Night is happening tonight for those who need to be issued.

If you cannot make the Supply Night today, please wear clean, smart casual/semi formal pants and shirt with a coat or sweater and hat/mitts/gloves as needed. All cadets who have been issued the cadet parka and toque should wear it, in accordance with weather predictions, along with plain black gloves or mittens. Any cadet who has not been issued a parka may wear a civilian coat overtop of their uniform, according to the weather conditions.

Staff should wear 1A (with gabardine), or business attire for civilians.

All personnel shall wear a poppy, in accordance with the dress instructions.

For the Carp ceremony, cadets should meet at the West Carleton War Memorial (462 Donald B Munro Dr) at 10:00 am. Parking is available at the Carp Agricultural Society Fairgrounds.

For the Kanata ceremony, cadets should meet on Colchester Square Road, next to the Russian Orthodox Church, at 10:15 am.

To sign up using the Teams Shift App:

Go to ‘View More Apps’ in the left-hand tool bar (in browser/Teams app on a computer) in both the browser and on a mobile device. It will look like three dots. Select ‘Shifts’, and view ‘Open Shifts’ to sign up to attend either Carp, Kanata, or a school ceremony. In case of difficulty, please send a message to your flight sergeant to advise them of which ceremony you plan to attend.

Thank you!
