Squadron Sponsoring Committee Elections
The SSC elections for the 2025/26 Cadet year will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at A.Y. Jackson School starting at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come out and take part and everyone can vote on who the elected directors will be.
The SSC is made up of a group of 11 Directors plus volunteers. The only difference between Directors and volunteers is that the Directors have the ability to vote on motions put forward at SSC meetings.
Within that group of 11 Directors there is an executive group made up of the Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
If you are interested in becoming a Director you must indicate your intention to the Chair by email (872.chairperson@cadetsair.ca) no later than Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Those interested in becoming a Director should have been attending SSC meetings during the past few months so you are familiar with the workings of our organization.
Expectations of Directors:
- Attend all SSC meetings (typically the second Wednesday of every month excluding July and August) plus Budget and Planning meetings typically held in August and early September.
- Actively volunteer at activities and events on Wednesday evenings and/or other nights and weekends as possible.
- If your calendar/workload permits, take on or assist in at least one major project or role per year (i.e. spaghetti dinner, community engagement days, canteen, facilities management, etc.)
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DAY
872 Kiwanis Kanata Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron will be conducting a community engagement day on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Cadets will be stationed at stores in Kanata South or Stittsville to take donations in exchange for a variety of items. Funds raised help offset costs for activities such as power flying days, gliding days, and ACR expenses. In addition to assisting with the cost of running these events, each individual cadet’s volunteer hours weigh heavily toward acceptance for summer camps, and special activities.
EVERY CADET IS TO FILL OUT A FORM. CE Day Form – Letter
If you cannot attend you STILL need to fill out a form. It is expected that every cadet will be willing to volunteer for this fundraising event. Please note, however, that we may not have enough locations and shifts to accommodate all cadets. Shifts will be assigned on a first come, first served basis by rank. The earlier you submit your form, the better your chances of getting your first choice for your shift. If you have your sheet in on time but do not get a shift for this reason, or if you have a legitimate reason for not participating (i.e., you will be at the gliding familiarization activity), you will not be penalized.
Cadets will receive their scheduled assignments by Thursday, May 22, 2025.
2024 TAX RECEIPTS
If you would like to receive an official tax receipt for donations made to the squadron in 2024, please email 872.treasurer@cadetsair.ca to request one. It will be emailed back to you.
